Falls among older adults represent a serious problem that affects their independence and quality of life. This documentary research aimed to establish the relationship between home safety and education in preventive behaviors to avoid falls in elderly people. To this end, a bibliographic review of scientific articles, theses, and official documents published between 2021 and 2026 was conducted, prioritizing studies carried out in Ecuador. The main findings show that the most common hazards within the home are poor lighting, slippery floors, lack of support bars, and poorly placed furniture. Additionally, it was found that many older adults do not apply safe behaviors in their daily lives, and that the fear of falling again leads them to move less, which paradoxically increases the risk of having an accident. The reviewed evidence confirms that education on safe habits, when combined with physical changes in the home, is the most effective strategy to prevent falls, managing to reduce accidents by between 20% and 40%. It is concluded that there is a direct relationship between a safe home, the knowledge that the older adult has, and the probability of suffering a fall. For this reason, it is recommended that families, health centers, and authorities work together to promote safer homes and better informed and more confident older adults.
