dc.descriptionAcne vulgaris is a highly prevalent inflammatory dermatological condition that mainly affects adolescents and young adults, generating physical and psychological impact. The objective of this work was to analyze the use of ozone therapy as a treatment for acne vulgaris, based on a review of the available scientific literature. The methodology used corresponded to a qualitative approach, with a descriptive and analytical design, through a systematic review of scientific studies, following the guidelines of the PRISMA declaration. The search was carried out in recognized academic databases such as PubMed, SciELO, Scopus, Dialnet and Google Scholar, selecting articles published between 2017 and 2025, in Spanish and English, related to the application of ozone therapy in dermatological conditions. The results showed that ozone therapy has favorable therapeutic effects in the treatment of acne vulgaris, highlighting its antiinflammatory, antimicrobial and regenerative properties, which contribute to the reduction of inflammatory lesions, erythema and the risk of secondary infection. Likewise, the reviewed studies indicated that the topical application of ozone and the use of ozonated oils were found to be safe and well-tolerated modalities, with few adverse effects when used properly. In conclusion, ozone therapy is presented as a promising complementary therapeutic alternative in the management of acne vulgaris; however, the development of clinical studies with more robust methodological designs is required to standardize application protocols and confirm its long-term efficacy and safety.
dc.description.abstractEl acné vulgar es una afección dermatológica inflamatoria de alta prevalencia que afecta principalmente a adolescentes y adultos jóvenes, generando impacto físico y psicológico. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue analizar el uso de la ozonoterapia como tratamiento para el acné vulgar, a partir de la revisión de la literatura científica disponible. La metodología empleada correspondió a un enfoque cualitativo, con un diseño descriptivo y analítico, mediante una revisión sistemática de estudios científicos, siguiendo los lineamientos de la declaración PRISMA. La búsqueda se realizó en bases de datos académicas reconocidas como PubMed, SciELO, Scopus, Dialnet y Google Scholar, seleccionándose artículos publicados entre los años 2017 y 2025, en idioma español e inglés, relacionados con la aplicación de la ozonoterapia en afecciones dermatológicas. Los resultados evidenciaron que la ozonoterapia presenta efectos terapéuticos favorables en el tratamiento del acné vulgar, destacándose sus propiedades antiinflamatorias, antimicrobianas y regeneradoras, las cuales contribuyen a la reducción de lesiones inflamatorias, eritema y riesgo de infección secundaria. Asimismo, los estudios revisados señalaron que la aplicación tópica del ozono y el uso de aceites ozonizados resultaron ser modalidades seguras y bien toleradas, con escasos efectos adversos cuando se emplean adecuadamente. En conclusión, la ozonoterapia se presenta como una alternativa terapéutica complementaria prometedora en el manejo del acné vulgar; sin embargo, se requiere el desarrollo de estudios clínicos con diseños metodológicos más robustos que permitan estandarizar protocolos de aplicación y confirmar su eficacia y seguridad a largo plazo.
