Abstract
pacientes.
Description
Childhood bruxism is a functional disorder characterized by the involuntary
grinding or clenching of the teeth, mainly during sleep, whose etiology is
associated with emotional, psychological, and environmental factors. This
condition may cause tooth wear, sleep disturbances, muscle pain, and negatively
affect the child's overall well-being. The aim of this study was to evaluate the
effectiveness of aromatherapy and Bach Flower Remedies as a complementary
treatment for children with childhood bruxism treated at the GAIA Holistic Center
in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
A quantitative, non-experimental, longitudinal, and descriptive study was
conducted. The sample consisted of 15 children between 7 and 10 years of age
diagnosed with childhood bruxism. The intervention consisted of the application
of a naturopathic protocol based on aromatherapy and Bach Flower Remedies
for three consecutive weeks. The evaluation included clinical observation,
interviews with parents or legal guardians, and follow-up records regarding the
frequency of bruxism episodes, sleep quality, emotional well-being, and
adherence to the therapeutic protocol.
The results showed a progressive reduction in the frequency of bruxism episodes,
improvements in sleep quality and emotional well-being, and increased
adherence to the treatment throughout the intervention. No adverse effects were
reported. It is concluded that aromatherapy and Bach Flower Remedies
represent safe complementary therapies that may contribute to the
comprehensive management of childhood bruxism and improve patients' quality
of life.
