dc.descriptionParkinson’s disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder and the fastestgrowing neurological condition worldwide; in its advanced stages (Hoehn and Yahr XII III–V) it produces functional dependence, motor fluctuations, dyskinesias, dysphagia, falls and neuropsychiatric symptoms that severely compromise the patient’s quality of life and overburden the caregiver. The aim of this review was to analyze and integrate recent scientific evidence on nursing care and interventions for patients with advanced-stage Parkinson’s disease. A documentary, descriptive and non-experimental literature review was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 rationale. The search was performed in PubMed, Scopus, SciELO, LILACS, Cochrane Library and ScienceDirect, covering publications from 2018 to 2025, using MeSH and DeCS descriptors combined with Boolean operators (AND, OR). After removing duplicates and applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, sixteen studies were selected and methodologically appraised with validated tools. Findings showed that the best-supported nursing interventions include the comprehensive assessment of motor and non-motor symptoms, management of and adherence to dopaminergic and advanced therapies (levodopacarbidopa intestinal gel infusion, apomorphine and deep brain stimulation), fall and dysphagia prevention, palliative care, psycho-emotional support, and patient and caregiver education. It is concluded that nurses, particularly the Parkinson’s disease nurse specialist, play a decisive role in comprehensive and humanized care; nevertheless, gaps remain in experimental research and in the implementation of care models in low- and middle-income countries.
dc.description.abstractLa enfermedad de Parkinson constituye el segundo trastorno neurodegenerativo más frecuente y la afección neurológica de mayor crecimiento mundial; en sus estadios avanzados (Hoehn y Yahr III–V) genera dependencia funcional, fluctuaciones motoras, discinesias, disfagia, caídas y síntomas neuropsiquiátricos que comprometen gravemente la calidad de vida del paciente y sobrecargan al cuidador. El objetivo de esta revisión fue analizar e integrar la evidencia científica reciente sobre los cuidados e intervenciones de enfermería dirigidos a pacientes con enfermedad de Parkinson en estadios avanzados. Se realizó una revisión de la literatura con enfoque documental, descriptivo y no experimental, siguiendo la lógica de los lineamientos PRISMA 2020. La búsqueda se ejecutó en PubMed, Scopus, SciELO, LILACS, Cochrane Library y ScienceDirect, abarcando publicaciones del periodo 2018–2025, mediante descriptores MeSH y DeCS combinados con operadores booleanos (AND, OR). Tras eliminar duplicados y aplicar criterios de inclusión y exclusión, se seleccionaron dieciséis estudios, evaluados metodológicamente con herramientas validadas. Los resultados evidenciaron que las intervenciones enfermeras más sustentadas comprenden la valoración integral de síntomas motores y no motores, la gestión y adherencia al tratamiento dopaminérgico y a las terapias avanzadas (infusión de gel intestinal de levodopa-carbidopa, apomorfina y estimulación cerebral profunda), la prevención de caídas y la disfagia, los cuidados paliativos, el apoyo psicoemocional y la educación al paciente y al cuidador. Se concluye que el profesional de enfermería, en especial la enfermera especialista en Parkinson, desempeña un rol determinante en la atención integral y humanizada; no obstante, persisten brechas en investigación experimental y en la implementación de modelos de cuidado en países de ingreso bajo y mediano.
