| dc.description | Skin hyperpigmentation is one of the main dermatological conditions with a significant impact on the psychosocial well-being and quality of life of individuals. In response to the demand for biological alternatives to conventional chemical depigmenting agents, which are often associated with adverse effects or irritation, this research evaluates the theoretical basis and potential efficacy of a handcrafted dermocosmetic formulation. This compound combines extracts from four key plant species: parsley (Petroselinum crispum), guayusa (Ilex guayusa), pepino dulce (Solanum muricatum), and epazote (Dysphania ambrosioides). The primary objective is to determine the capacity of these natural active ingredients to intervene in melanogenesis, the metabolic process of melanin synthesis. From a biochemical perspective, the study analyzes how the bioactive components of these plants such as flavonoids, phenolic acids, vitamins, and specific antioxidants interact with the enzyme tyrosinase, responsible for the oxidation of tyrosine to produce pigment. Theoretically, parsley provides high levels of vitamin C and apigenin, potent free radical inhibitors; guayusa, rich in polyphenols, offers remarkable antioxidant and protective capacity; pepino dulce contributes to hydration and cell renewal; while paico has anti-inflammatory properties that mitigate post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. The analysis concludes that the synergistic action of these Ecuadorian species effectively blocks melanocyte activation pathways. This suggests high therapeutic potential within holistic aesthetics, promoting skin tone uniformity and safely reducing the intensity of blemishes. | |
