Abstract
Description
Acne is one of the most common skin conditions, characterized by the obstruction of the pilosebaceous follicle, increased sebum production, and inflammatory processes that alter the skin. In comprehensive aesthetics, the use of topical acids such as salicylic acid and retinoic acid represents a good and effective alternative for non-invasive treatment that improves acne-prone skin. The objective of this study is to analyze the efficacy, properties, and safety salicylic acid and retinoic acid in the aesthetic treatment of acne, based on a literature review of scientific articles from the last five years. Salicylic acid, belonging to the group of beta-hydroxy acids, has keratolytic, comedolytic, and sebum-regulating activity; therefore, it promotes exfoliation and pore cleansing. On the other hand, retinoic acid, a derivative of vitamin A, has the ability to promote cell renewal, regulate keratinization, and improve skin texture. The results show that both acids are effective against acne-prone skin. Although they differ in their mechanisms of action and tolerability, salicylic acid is more compatible with sensitive skin, while retinoic acid has deeper effects and a greater potential for irritation. It is concluded that the choice of treatment should correspond to the skin type and the patient's needs, and correct application within the framework of comprehensive aesthetics is crucial for optimizing safety and progress.
